Staying safe in the heatwave
The UK is currently experiencing high temperatures, and it’s important to take extra care to stay safe and comfortable during the heatwave. Prolonged heat can affect anyone, but young children, older people and those with health conditions may be more at risk.
There are simple steps you can take to keep cool:
Stay hydrated
by drinking plenty of water throughout the day
Ventilate your home
early in the morning or late in the evening when it’s cooler outside
Wear lightweight clothing
and limit physical activity during peak heat
Remove glass or mirrored items from your windowsill or balcony
strong light reflections can sometimes start a fire
Keep curtains and blinds closed
during the hottest hours of the day
Create a cross breeze
by opening windows either side of the house
Don’t forget to check in on neighbours, friends or family members who may need extra support during hot weather.
